OKOWA TO MILITANTS: IT’S TIME TO SHEATHE YOUR SWORDS

GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, yesterday, told militant groups in the Niger Delta region to desist from further attacks on oil installations, saying the time had come for them to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue.130115-ifeanyi-okowa

Okowa, who spoke while commissioning the 14, 000 capacity stadium built by Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, with the school’s internally generated revenue and support from the state government, lamented that attacks on oil installations had reduced Delta State from its status as the second, to the fourth oil producing state in the country.

The governor, who also commissioned three laboratory buildings, model banking hall, wheel balancing workshop/laboratory and six other new projects executed by the institution with its internally generated revenue, said: “At a point in time, we have a right to agitate, but we should also be mindful of the ways of our agitations to ensure that what we are doing is not directly slapping our own face.

A lot of investments are coming and we know that Delta State is the preferred destination. There is a new oil and gas company that is coming to take over the NPDC percentage in the OML 30 and the headquarters of their operations will be based in Warri.

This will be good for the state, but we must ensure that we provide the needed peace. I believe that our communities will give them a lot of support, because their intention is to improve oil production from where it is today at 20, 000 to 250, 000 barrels per day in the next two and that will be wonderful for our state.”
